LEAP Celebrates the Repeal of Alcohol Prohibition

Our friends at Law Enforcement Against Prohibition have launched a campaign commemorating the 75th anniversary of the repeal of alcohol prohibition:

December, 2008 marks the 75th anniversary of the end of alcohol prohibition. You can help teach a lesson from history by asking your representatives to repeal today’s failed prohibition of drugs.

When America’s leaders repealed alcohol prohibition, it wasn't because they suddenly decided that liquor was safe and that everyone should drink. Rather, it was because they were tired of gangsters raking in rich illegal profits and terrorizing neighborhoods. And we simply could not afford to keep enforcing the failed prohibition during the Great Depression, our nation's worst economic crisis.

Today, America is in the grip of a new economic crisis, but we keep paying for an even more devastating prohibition, the "war on drugs."

Please click here to share LEAP’s message with your representatives. The effort has already generated terrific coverage from Reuters and LEAP’s press conference even made the local news on FOX. Very Cool.

Drug War Issues Policing
Politics & Advocacy Legalization - Prohibition

This would make a nice poll question on Repeal Day

How many Americans would support resurrecting Alcohol Prohibition?

Yes.

I'd love to see those numbers.

Poll Question

How many police officers, prison guards, "tough on crime" politicians, corrupt politicians looking for a distraction, prison contractors, and fundamentalists are there in America? Their mouths would be watering at the chance to increase their power and wealth.

it's sad but true

To dam many to count . so we need even more. Please speak out if your in a position to do so with some influence

LEAP will Debate Legalization Question at SCCC

William Aiken

LEAP (Law Enforcement against Prohibition) will be participating in a debate deemed "Legalization of Drug in America". LEAP Co-Founder Peter Christ will be facing off against Kevin Sebat, a drug policy expert who worked in the Drug Czar's office under the Clinton Administration. The debate will be held at the Schenectady County Community College in the Stockade Building, Room 101, from 10:30 to 1PM on December 5th.

I have been working the Print, Radio and TV press for this event and the reponse has been phenominal. The Times Union in Albany featured this story on LEAP.

http://www.timesunion.com/AspStories/story.asp?storyID=746297

Two radio stations in Albany WROW and TALK1300 have agreed to do intereviews with Christ after the debate and five TV stations told me they plan to give coverage to the event.

Promoting this debate was made easier due to the fact that a local ex-police chief was sentenced to two years in prison for his role in a heroin/cocaine in Schenectady, NY. This has been a huge story in the Capital District. It points to the corruption surrounding the drug trade and the absolute ineffective manner in which the drug war doesn't deter anyone from doing drugs.

You can see video clips from the debate next week by going to youtube and typing waiken78 in the search engine.
